Reunited with my blog...

Catching up!!

I know I know.. I've been M.I.A. for a couple of weeks but things have been busy and I'm just trying to catch up here!! Where do I begin... January was a great start to the year... and tomorrow it'll be February already!

In no particular order... one of my best friends Heidi is due any day now! I had the honor of attending her blessing away shower and I couldn't be happier for her and Alex! They are both going to be great parents and a huge cheerleader for their little girl... her real name will be Ellie Grace but I may call it Kitty... she knows what it'll mean ;-)!!

I turned 32 and my wonderful friend Nicks threw me a birthday party with help from a very special cast including Tricia, Sandy and Abbey! I have to say.. I have no issues with aging.. it's a beautiful thing.. I would much prefer to be 32 than 23! I am loving my 30's! It's been a busy Birthday week with dinners of all kinds and just spending time with my friends and of course a new special person in my life :-).

What else.. oh my blood test! I've been feeling not quite right lately.. a bit fatigued from training so I got a blood test to check out my iron levels and possibilities of being anemic. Got a phone call from the doctor.. made an appt to see her to chat about my results...iron levels good.. not anemic bu vitamin D levels well below the ideal range which starts at 40, I measured in at 32 so loading up on the vitamins now! My daily pills include, BASE vitamin supplements, calcium pill and 2 vitamin D pills! I have been feeling better lately so hope to feel right soon!

Training has picked up! Training camp in Tucson.. aka Fat Camp is just around the corner so that week should no doubt whip me into shape- both physically and mentally!! Should be a blast... it will be tough but definitely good for me! Speaking of training, took my 1st lactate test of 2010 for this season! After I tested, Craig said," it was a good test.. very good." I am always fascinated by numbers so I was specially attentive when Craig sat me down to explain my test results and how they compared to my last test (pre- IM CDA). My T1 (100% effort go all day pace) increased by 10 watts, my weight is 7 pounds lighter than where I started a year ago and my heart rate zones came down - thank goodness cause I was definitely suffering on some of my training runs with my old heart rate zones!

Positive test results are good but what really matters to me is the feedback from the Coach himself. Overall, positive, he said, "not a bad curve - and a much better shape than ever before...BUT...we need to ride a LOT more below z2 heart rate....as a matter of fact you just need to go out and get lost on your bike below z2 heart rate....oh, yeah - Tucson is perfect for that....this is a really good starting point though...much better than before!" A good start is a good place!!

Btw, does anyone know if it's possible that your body can forget how to swim? Because I think mine has! My swims lately have been horrible! I have until May 1st to improve to it.. at least to the point for it to count as a weakness!!

Going out to get lost on my bike.. until next time.. train away!!

Earthquake week!

I thought October was the earthquake month?

It's Thursday, I am sitting in my cube typing away, all of a sudden I felt some rumbling but being that I'm on the 2nd Floor, I thought it was furniture movement in the conference room downstairs, well I was wrong, earthquake! Turned out to be a 4.1 magnitude earthquake.

Now, it's Saturday, Humboldt County in northern California 6.5 magnitude earthquake. OK, now I am REALLY having a WTF moment?! This is January, a freezing January at that! Earthquake weather usually happens in October when the air is humid and muggy and the temps are hot so what's with all the earth shaking action in California?!

Feeling under the weather this week! I've told my body that it can't get sick until September.. we'll see who wins this battle! Hopefully, it's me cause really, there's no other choice!! IM Utah is creeping up FAST!

Workout Log-
Swim- 1 hour and 0 minutes

Happy New Year!

Lack of structure.. lack of productivity!

I had this entire week off of work as the company shut down for the last week of the year and I thought that I'd check off all the things on my to-do list and be on top of my training... wrong! Clearly, for me, as I have found out, I need structure in my life in order to be productive! Along the same lines as.. if you want something done.. ask a busy person to do it! I stayed in bed.. longer than I should.. in my PJs for hours.. putting things off.. then next thing you know it's bedtime again and oh look.. it's January 4th.. have to go back to work! But hey, I had a good New Year's and I hope you did too! 2009 was really good to me.. is it too much to ask for 2010 to be just as good if not better?!

While my week of trainings were not as good as I had hoped for them to be, I did start my New Year with a 2 hour compu-trainer class in the pain cave with coach and let me tell you.. it was pure pain! Put my head between my knees to help "my nauseous I think I am going to puke feeling" type of pain!

Speaking of pain.. the Ironman.. there's been talk that Lance Armstrong is going to race in 2011.. he turns 40 that year.. and it's in October.. the month of his new birthday after being in remission of cancer. Talk of him doing it turned into talks of him winning it. Triathlete Magazine was stirring the pot a little with this clip here:

Now, some would say that Macca is cocky and doesn't know better to have possibly angered Lance. I've been a Lance fan for a long time. I have every one of his Tour de France wins on DVD and I've even kept his SI covers. Having said that, I completely agree with Macca's comments re: Lance's chances of winning Kona. For those that disagree and think that Lance can win.. are you kidding me?! First of all, that would be hugely disrespecting the top guys at the IM level. Secondly, Lance may be a great cyclists and even a good runner but when was the last time Lance had to do a solo time trail for 8, 9, 10 hours solely dependent on himself? Yes, he ran numerous marathons quite well but he also had an entourage pacing him and telling him when to take in a gel, etc. Do that at an IM and you're DQ'd! Solely running a marathon and running a marathon after 112 miles on the bike is night and day! Bottom line, Lance at Kona will be great to watch and NBC's ratings will for sure shoot up but a win for Lance at the World Champs.. I wouldn't bet on it. And why are folks pissed at Macca for saying what he thinks and giving his honest opinion?

That's it for this week.. Happy New Year!
